Meet the Artists
Our mountain communities have always been shaped by people who create. Painters, woodworkers, fiber artists, jewelers, ceramicists, naturalists, musicians, and craftspeople have long found inspiration here among the sugar pines, granite, rivers, and changing seasons. Sugar Pine Artisan Collective celebrates and supports that vibrant creative spirit by providing a welcoming space for local artisans to share their work and stories with both residents and visitors exploring the Sierra Nevadas.
Brooke Krolick
I make work at the intersection of art, science, and place. As an educator, naturalist, and artist, I am drawn to the small, often overlooked details of the natural world. The way light moves through a canopy of pine, the emergence of trillium in early spring wetlands, the quiet intelligence of frogs, birds, and insects navigating their seasons. My watercolor paintings, mosaics, and mixed-media pieces are rooted in direct observation and a deep curiosity about how living systems connect, adapt, and persist.
Much of my practice is shaped by time spent outdoors with children and community—teaching, exploring, and learning alongside others as we notice the world more closely. I believe creativity is a form of attention, and that slowing down to make something by hand can become a way of returning to place, to season, and to ourselves. Whether I am working in glass, paint, or fiber, I am interested in the dialogue between fragility and resilience, pattern and unpredictability, science and story.
Through my work at Sugar Pine Artisan Collective and The Makery, as well as my writing in The Mindful Naturalist, I hope to create spaces, both physical and reflective, where people feel invited to look more closely, wonder more deeply, and engage more joyfully with the living world around them.
